VILLAGES
MONTCABRIER
Situation:
XIII th century Bastide situated in the center of the Thèze Valley on the border of the Périgord, the Agenais and the Quercy (Lot Valley).
A brief history: Established in 1298 during the reign of Philippe le Bel by the Périgord and Quercy 'sénechal', Guy de Capary. Montcabrier was at war with the lords of Pestillac (Castrum situated opposite on the other side of the Thèze Valley). The fight was fierce but finally won by Montcabrier.
A typical bastide (medieval new town): Characterised by its grid layout of streets revolving around its village square, it is noted for its impressive architecture with arcades and "cornieres". The XIV century church dedicated to St Louis, with its bell tower, overlooks the village.
